Saturday Breakfast Homework Club: This exciting program aims to create a one-on-one tutoring environment in which the student and the volunteer are able to develop a longer-term and more profound relationship. It also hopes to create an opportunity for Y.O.U. families to be engaged in the child's academics. Saturdays from 10am-12:00pm at Evanston Public Library, Main Branch, 1703 Orrington Ave.
Soccer/Homework Night: For those interested in sports as well as receiving academic support, Y.O.U. has developed a program which allows youth to receive academic assistance, eat a meal, and play an hour of soccer. Designed to help students achieve personal goals while developing positive relationships with adults. The soccer/homework night is particularly good for those unable to volunteer directly after school or work. Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 pm at Nichols.
Summer Program: Our programs don't stop at the end of the school year-we have a summer program packed with fun activities including Fourth of July float building, beach days, field trips, bike trips, and community gardening.
Fairways to Success: This program began in the summer of 2000 with seven boys. It was started to give underserved youth access to golf. We have focused on golf as a medium through which we can connect young people with adults. Volunteer mentors work one on one with kids teaching life lessons as well as the game of golf. The program generally meets during the summer on Thursday night from 4-6:30 P.M.
Special Events: Volunteers may help with special events as they arise. Projects may be on a one time only, short term or ongoing basis. They include Y.O.U. fundraisers, outings and community service projects: such as the wine tasting fundraiser put on by the Leaders Council and the Annual Dinner.
Administrative Support: Volunteers interested in offering clerical or administrative support to management staff are welcome. Office support includes the phones, data entry, photocopying, mailings, and technical support.
